Pokemon GO June Community Day to Feature Larvitar

Typically, Pokemon GO reveals the upcoming featured Pokemon for its Community Day a couple of days after the previous Community Day. Following Charmander’s Community day, rumor and speculation have led many to believe the next event will feature Larvitar, the second-generation Ground/Rock-type Pokemon. Notably, Niantic has yet to weigh in with official confirmation, but that may because it recently revealed that a number of Alolan-form Pokemon were coming to the popular mobile ARG.

The idea that the next featured Pokemon being Larvitar isn’t without basis, though it is admittedly weak, as it seems Niantic has been following a rotating pattern when it comes to selecting what Pokemon to feature for the event. The pattern in Pokemon GO begins in full force with Dratini – a first gen 10km egg Pokemon – followed by Bulbasaur, a first generation starter. Then, Mareep – a second gen 10km egg Pokemon – was also followed by a first generation starter, Charmander.

Notably, this pattern has also led to the possibility of the next event featuring a third gen 10km egg Pokemon, but that only leaves Bagon, Beldum, Chimecho, Feebas, Ralts, Sableye, Slakoth, and Trapinch as possible contenders against Larvitar. Moreover, every Pokemon besides Pikachu that has been featured has had a three-step evolution, eliminating Chimecho, Feebas, and Sableye. Bagon, Beldum, Ralts, Slakoth, and Trapinch each fit the pattern, but notably, do not meet the popularity of Larvitar, which could be a deciding factor.

Provided that Niantic is not yet ready to introduce Gen 3 into the Community Day rotation, Larvitar seems like a possipility. After all, not only is it popular within the Pokemon GO Community and has a three-step evolution, but the pocket monster would have a serious influence on the metagame. If Niantic is ready to cross into Gen 3 with Community Day, then one of the aforementioned seem likely. Whenever Niantic decides to reveal its featured Pokemon, the event is confirmed to occur on Saturday, June 16, 2018, so look for an announcement sometime before then.

Of course, until Niantic confirms its featured Pokemon, this is all speculation. The popular theory is Larvitar, but if Niantic chooses to pursue Gen 3, it’s likely Larvitar could be pushed out for one of the above. Since the community is currently unhappy with the Latias/Ho-oh in-game distribution, it seems likely that Niantic may be looking to give its base what it wants, but all players can do is wait and see.
