Pokemon GO May Swap Region Exclusives Later This Month

It has been some time since the last regional swap in Pokemon GO, but it seems like developer Niantic is gearing up to deliver another one later this month. According to the official newsletter, it could be Hoenn Pokemon that are migrating, with it notably being around a year since the iconic pair, Zangoose and Seviper, swapped regions.

The Pokemon GO newsletter stops short of revealing what Pokemon could potentially swap regions, and instead, goes on to say, “We’ve heard reports of a migration pattern that could affect the appearance of Pokemon originally discovered in the Hoenn region…Perhaps we’ll know more later this month.” Still, the list of regional Pokemon is not extensive, so there is only a handful of Pokemon this could impact, especially since it is known to be dealing with Gen 3 Pokemon.

Regional pairs, which are the likeliest to get swapped, include Solrock and Lunatone, Illumise and Volbeat, and Seviper and Zangoose. One member of each of these groups appears in North America, South America, and Africa, whereas the other member appears only in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Of these pairs, Illumise and Volbeat are the only to not have swapped regions in Pokemon GO. It makes the most sense for it to be that pair, but none of them can be entirely ruled out.

There are other region exclusives that could be affected by this migration, though these Pokemon seem less likely due to their being locked to more select regions. These Pokemon include Relicanth (locked to select Pacific islands), Torkoal (Indian and western Asia), and Tropius (Africa, Middle East) and each notably covers less area than regional pairs.

All in all, there’s no telling what Niantic has up its sleeves, so players will just have to find out later this month. There’s plenty to get the Pokemon GO lover busy though, as the first Hatchathon event of 2019 is now live. Through this event, players are getting 5KM and 10KM eggs more, as well as double rewards when hatching an egg.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions for Android and iOS mobile devices.
