Pokemon GO Mega Ampharos Raid Counters (August 2021)

August is a very busy month for Pokemon GO trainers and is going to involve a ton of exciting quest and Battle Raid opportunities. Thanks to the Ultra Unlock Reward events, there are special bonuses and features in place almost constantly throughout the whole month. In addition to that, there is also the opportunity to throw down against a unique Mega Raid boss for a few more days.

Mega Ampharos will appear in Pokemon GO Mega Raids from Friday, August 6, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Friday, August 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Mega Raids can be particularly challenging, so trainers will want to take some time to pull together a battle roster full of elite counters before they head out to group up for the big fight this week.

Mega Ampharos is an Electric-/Dragon-type, which means that trainers have some interesting choices when it comes to forming a counter roster. The boss will be weak to Dragon-, Fairy-, Ground-, and Ice-types, so there are a lot of meta-relevant counters available that many players have likely already powered up that with Max CP and the right move set…

Although Mega Raids are always challenging, Mega Ampharos isn’t the toughest of the bunch. That means that players will the right counters prepared could get away with a smaller group size of 4-5 skilled trainers for these Mega Raids. That said, it definitely doesn’t hurt to play it safe and still to 6+ groups for more of a guarantee at earning the reward encounter.

Trainers should also consider burning through some TMs, Candy, and Stardust if they feel they don’t have a strong enough counter roster ready to go. Those resources are highly valuable in Pokemon GO, but all of these recommended counters are going to be relevant and useful time and time again in Legendary and Mega Raids, so they’re likely worth the investment if trainers have some resources to space.
