Niantic has revealed the new start date for Pokémon GO’s Battle League Season 2 following a delay due to technical issues.

No video game release has had a bigger impact than that of Pokémon GO back in 2016. It really did feel like everyone was playing for those first few months. However, there were some familiar Pokémon elements missing from the game during those early days, like battles, trades, and any Pokémon beyond the original 151.

That was smart marketing by Niantic as it needed to give itself and the game room to grow. That’s why it is still so popular almost four years later. Niantic often adds new features and Pokémon to Pokémon GO. The battling element of the game continues to develop, getting its biggest change earlier this year in the form of the GO Battle League.

The Battle League allows trainers from all over the world to pit their Pokémon against each other. The plan was to have trainers walk 3km in order to gain entry into the League each day. However, thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak, Niantic did away with the entry requirement during Season 1 and allowed trainers to battle in Battle League whenever and wherever they wanted. The best news of all? That trend will be extended into Season 2.

The bad news? The start of Season 2 has been delayed. It was supposed to kick off with the Great League on May 1 but due to undivulged technical issues, that didn’t happen. Niantic has now revealed a new start date: May 11, 2020. What’s more, the season won’t be a shortened one. Instead, the start of Season 3 has also been pushed back a week from July 6 to July 13. By that point, trainers might need to walk that 3km to gain entry, though.

As was the case in Season 1, Battle League Season 2 will start off with the Great League. Only Pokémon up to 1500 CP can be used. The Great League will run for three weeks instead of two this time around, as will the Ultra League that follows. The Master League will also be accompanied by the first-ever Premier Cup, a competition with no cap on CP, but mythical and legendary Pokémon cannot be used.
