Once upon a time, Field Research Breakthroughs in Pokemon GO meant a guaranteed Legendary encounter. When the system originally rolled out, it offers players who weren’t completing Battle Raids, or who had gotten very unlucky in their raiding, some guaranteed encounters with Legendary Pokemon who had already been released in the game. Over the last year or so, the reward system has changed quite a bit.

At this point, Pokemon GO has moved away from the Legendary Research Breakthroughs and instead usually offers a regular Pokemon as the reward, along with some extra Candy associated with the featured Pokemon. The non-Legendary rewards caused a bit of drama in the community when the change originally arrived and, at this point, the fan reactions each month vary depending on the featured creature. For November’s offering, Vullaby, some players are taking to social media to share their disappointment.

Vullaby is a Gen 5 Dark/Flying-type Pokemon and its evolution line isn’t going to make too much of a splash on the PoGO PvP or PvE metagame at this point. Much of the drama surrounding this selection comes from the fact that players have already had plenty of chances to hatch Vullaby from their 12km Eggs in recent months.

That said, the sentiment isn’t universal in the community. Some players, especially those who don’t spend real world money on Incubators are still in need of Vullaby and its Candy. Will four encounters be enough to give them what they need? That is going to vary from player to player.
