It may not come as a surprise that Niantic views Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s most likely audience as the player base of Pokemon GO. Both games are developed by Niantic, both are Alternate Reality games involving exploring and interacting with the real world, and both are based on hugely popular brands among young gamers. Capitalizing on this connection, Niantic is offering Pokemon GO players a privilege, allowing them to reserve their usernames in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite right now.

The Harry Potter: Wizards Unite username, or in-story “Code Name,” reservation will be available starting today and will run through April 30. Both Pokemon GO users and players of Niantic’s other AR game, Ingress Prime, can reserve their names, either their Ingress Agent title or their Pokemon GO trainer name.

In order to put down a reservation on a Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Code Name, players will have to login to their respective Pokemon GO or Ingress accounts. This can be done via a Google Account or a Facebook Account login for either game, or via Niantic Kids for Pokemon GO exclusively. Unfortunately, the Pokemon Trainer Club login will not be applicable.

Niantic also notes that there’s a possibility that some usernames will not be available, due to them already being claimed. For example, an Ingress player could claim a name and prevent a Pokemon GO player with the same name from reserving it. It’s first come, first served, so make sure to reserve a username as soon as possible.

Much remains to be shared regarding Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. While early details about gameplay have been offered up and pre-registration opened so fans could prepare for launch, exactly what the game is and how it plays largely remains a mystery.

Nevertheless, Pokemon GO and Ingress players likely have a level of faith in Niantic overcoming any worries or curiosities that might otherwise lead them to be skeptical. Niantic clearly sees that and is rewarding it to a degree, ensuring that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has a healthy and excited user base ready on launch day.
