Pokemon GO Raid Bug Wont Load Legendary Pokemon

There is a bug in Pokemon GO that’s causing major problems for trainers attempting to catch legendary Pokemon. The bug is one of many that came with the game’s latest update. While most of the bugs are causing minor visual hiccups, the one affecting raids is a big one, as it’s preventing players from battling legendary Pokemon.

The issue occurs when Pokemon GO fails to load the legendary Pokemon assets, which causes the player’s game to time out when they attempt to enter a raid. It all stems from an initialization issue that causes the game’s gym to fail to load the 3D model.

There is some good news, however. A workaround exists, but it hinges on a player having already seen the legendary Pokemon for the raid. Those players can restart Pokemon GO with the GPS off before the gym loads, which will force the game to reload the image assets that are missing. Once the assets are loaded in, players can once again turn GPS back on. We haven’t tested it ourselves, so be cautious. Those who choose to wait it out will be pleased to know Niantic is currently working on a fix.

The bug has been reported to affect all raids, but it happens most often with new legendary raids. That means anyone going for Suicune, Entei, or Raikou will need to be wary. And if a troublesome bug isn’t enough, the new legendary Pokemon also have abysmal capture rates, with players having a mere 2% chance of catching one.

A player’s chances go up if they jump into a raid with the right gear. Capture rates will increase to a more reasonable rate if players feed legendary Pokemon Golden Razz Berries. It’s not a huge increase, but it’s an improvement. Unfortunately, these little beauties aren’t as plentiful as they were before. Niantic decided to decrease the rate at which the berries drop as raid rewards. The move has frustrated many players, causing some to call on the company to increase the drop rates of Golden Razz Berries through various social forums.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices in select regions.
