Pokemon GO September 2019 Turtwig Community Day Guide

Pokemon GO’s September Community Day event is just a few days away, which means players have the adorable starter Pokemon Turtwig and its evolutions on the brain. The weekend of September 15, 2019 Pokemon GO players will have three hours to catch as many of the Gen 4 Grass-type as possible and expand their collection with shiny spawns, evolutions, and hopefully a few more surprises.

The basic idea of Pokemon GO Community Day is pretty simple: Go out and catch a ton of pokemon for three hours, but this time around things are different. For players who need a little more direction than that, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide full of all the intel you need for the big day.

Be sure to keep in mind that this day would be a fantastic time to earn that gold Grass-type badge if you haven’t already acquired it. The badge isn’t particular hard to obtain for players who have been around since the beginning, but this is a great opportunity for newer players to catch up.

Date

Sunday, September 15, 2019 – Note: This is a longer break between Community Days than we’ve seen in the last few months. That should give trainers some more time to stock up on Pinap Berries and get ready for the big day!

Start and End Times

NOTE: This is a new and different type! Be sure not to miss it.

Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. This time around, the event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time.

The reasoning behind the early afternoon time wasn’t explained this time around. This is the third time window used this summer, so Niantic is clearly testing something out. Be sure to keep a close eye on the scheduled times for future Community Day events, in case additional changes keep coming.

Special Move

The exclusive move for September 2019’s Community Day event has not been confirmed yet. Usually this information drops a few days before the event, so it should arrive later this week. At this point, the Turtwig family of evolutions are not very powerful in the metagame, so it will be exciting to see if the exclusive move helps change that status quo.

Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within an hour of the event ending) if you want to secure it.

Bonuses

3x Catch Stardust – This is one of the most exciting Community Day bonuses that is in the rotation. Players should plan to use Starpieces and take full advantage of the event to stock up on as much of the valuable resource as possible. Hardcore players will confirm that you can never have too much Stardust on hand.

3 Hour Lures – This bonus seems to be a standard for every single Community Day event.

Limited Time Field Research

Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them. Usually these tasks just involve catching 3 of the featured Pokemon and the rewards are often an encounter with yet another spawn of the featured Pokemon.

Shiny Variant

Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Turtwig while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them on Sunday the 15th. Collecting shiny Pokemon doesn’t give the trainer any kind of advantage in battle, but it is still a fun additional challenge to add into the game. Shiny Pokemon are perfect for leaving in Gyms to show off to the rest of the community.

That’s everything we know at this point! Check back for more Pokemon GO updates, strategy guides, and news closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
