Pokémon GO The Gen VI Tease Has Begun But Where The Heck Is Kecleon

Artwork celebrating Pokémon GO’s fourth anniversary has teased the arrival of Gen VI, while Gen III still remains incomplete.

The addition of trophies and side quests to video games has made most about so much more than just completing the main story. That might satisfy some gamers, but others want to explore every inch of what a game has to offer. There is no better example of that then the Pokémon franchise. After all the gym badges have been collected, and the game’s elite defeated, there is still an extensive Pokédex to complete.

In Pokémon GO, there is no story, so an even bigger onus is placed on completing that Pokédex. Niantic has been adding Pokémon gradually, taking it region by region for the most part. In fact, the arrival of Gen VI was teased just last week. The Kalos region’s three starters can be seen in new artwork that celebrates the game’s fourth anniversary.

The arrival of new Pokémon to Pokémon GO is something that should excite all of its trainers. However, Niantic is leaving gaps in its wake. There are multiple Pokémon missing from Gen V, others still not added from Gen IV, and worst of all, one solitary Pokémon from the Hoenn region that is yet to be officially added.

That missing Pokémon is Kecleon, entry #352 in the Pokédex. Kecleon has appeared in Pokémon GO, but its appearance was attributed to a bug. When caught, Kecleon would turn into a Ditto. Chances are Niantic has a plan for Kecleon’s eventual addition. Perhaps it will be in conjunction with a new feature as was the case with Smeargle. Smeargle’s long overdue addition halted the Johto region from becoming complete for a long time.

Since Kecleon shares the characteristics of a chameleon, there’s a chance it has been out there in the wild this whole time and we just can’t see it. Or that’s what Niantic can claim when it eventually does add the Pokémon to the game. It might also play a part in the addition of reality blending to Pokémon GO as Niantic attempts to persuade more trainers to play the game in AR mode.
