Pokémon GO Theory The Next Community Days Are Setting Up Mega Evolution

The subjects for Pokémon GO’s next two Community Days suggest that Mega Evolutions are almost upon us.

Last month, the first of two Pokémon Presents presentations revealed a boatload of information about the future of the franchise. The most exciting reveal was that of Pokémon Snap’s long-awaited sequel. However, the upcoming addition of Mega Evolution to Pokémon GO was a close second. The only trouble is, there was no hint as to when Mega Evolution will arrive in-game.

The first hint that it will be coming soon arrived via Pokémon GO’s latest loading screen. While not clear enough to confirm, there appears to be a Mega Charizard X way off in the background. For some trainers, that outline is enough to confirm Mega Evolution will be here sooner rather than later. The next two Community Days would certainly suggest that’s the case.

Niantic has revealed Magikarp will be the star of August’s Community Day. Nothing to complain about for most trainers since it takes 400 Magikarp candy to evolve the fairly useless Pokémon into Gyrados. It might provide a chance for some to finally add that elusive Red Gyrados to their collection. However, since shiny Magikarp has been in play for a while (it was Pokémon GO’s first-ever shiny) there must be another reason for Magikarp getting a Community Day in 2020.

That reason could be the introduction of its Mega Evolved form, Mega Gyrados. Magikarp might be the first to get the Mega Evolution treatment and it could happen as soon as the Pokémon’s Community Day. That would also explain why Niantic scrapped the vote it had planned where trainers would once again be able to pick which Pokémon would be thrust into the spotlight.

On top of all that, the leaked September Community Day Pokémon Pidgey also suggests that Mega Evolution is almost here. Again, shiny Pidgey has been available for a while, but its Community Day could usher in the arrival of Mega Pidgeot. Perhaps players will see Mega Evolutions introduced one by one, starting with some Gen I favorites. A vote between the three Gen I starters, all of which have Mega Evolved forms, for October’s Community Day sounds like a great idea.
