Niantic has revealed that Pokémon GO’s servers will undergo server maintenance on June 1, 2020, making the game unplayable for a number of hours.

Video games have come to the rescue of many people during what are tough times for almost everyone right now – whether it be hardcore gamers, casual gamers, or maybe even people who are new to gaming looking for something to do during quarantine. However, one game we didn’t expect to come to our aid at this time was Pokémon GO.

Since Pokémon GO revolves around leaving the house in order to catch and train Pokémon with friends, it was assumed the game would struggle as the pandemic worsened. However, Niantic acted fast and adapted its game so that it could easily be played alone and from home. Those who have been relying on Pokémon GO for entertainment will need to find something else on June 1, though.

Niantic has revealed that for seven hours on that Monday, Pokémon GO’s servers will be down while they undergo maintenance. The tweet breaking the news describes the seven-hour period as “global downtime” and reveals that nobody will be able to play the game during that time. The maintenance will take place between 11am and 6pm PDT.

As for why Niantic needs seven hours to work on Pokémon GO uninterrupted, that has not been revealed. Perhaps something big is coming to the game soon. As for what’s happening in-game between now and then, trainers still have a lot to keep themselves busy. The Sinnoh Throwback Event starts today, the fourth of the four events celebrating regions from the Pokémon franchise’s past.

There’s also Pokémon GO’s next Community Day to look forward to this Sunday. Seedot will be the focus of that, and starting Saturday and heading into Sunday, there will be a poll on Pokémon GO’s Twitter account asking trainers to vote for the stars of the next two Community Days. As if all of that wasn’t enough, next week the Unova region’s Reshiram will also make its debut in the game via five-star raids.
