The Kanto Event is right around the corner in Pokemon Go. This guide will show players the difference between choosing the Red or Green versions of the pass. Pokemon Go is celebrating its 5 year anniversary as well as the Pokemon series’ 25th anniversary as a whole. The franchise changed the world when it released back in 1996 and continues to be the highest-earning multi-media franchise of all time. From anime to video games to merchandise and movies, the Pokemon brand is stronger than ever before. To celebrate, Pokemon Go is hosting a ticketed event called the Kanto Tour. This guide will show players the differences between the Red or Green versions.

This is a ticketed event that will take place on February 20th from 9 AM to 9 PM local time. During this time, players will have the chance the capture Shiny versions of all 150 Pokemon, some even for the first time ever. When the player purchases the ticket, they will be given an option between a Red or Green version to choose from. This is clearly a version of the original Pokemon games that released back in Japan, Pokemon Red, and Pokemon Green. There are a few differences between each version. This guide will show players the differences between each one and which one they should choose.

Differences Between Red and Green in the Kanto Tour (Pokemon Go)

The main difference between the two versions is the Pokemon the player will attract when using an Incense item. Here are the Pokemon they will attract for each version.

  • Red Version: Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, Growlithe, Scyther, and Electabuzz.
  • Green Version: Sandshrew, Vulpix, Meowth, Bellsprout, Magmar, and Pinsir.

While this is fine and dandy, the real trick is that each version will also have an increased chance of being a Shiny Pokemon for these Incense-exclusive Pokemon. While both versions will allow players to capture all the original 150 Pokemon, the difference is in the Incense.

To best decide which version to choose, think about which Pokemon from this list are you most comfortable with catching a Shiny version of that Pokemon. From personal experience, the Red version might be your choice because you enjoy the look of Shiny Growlithe. Ultimately, it comes down to the player’s own preference. Regardless, within those 12 hours, players will be teleported to a time when their primary goal in life was to go out into the world and capture them all. Make sure to pick up your ticket before the event begins to participate.
