Pokemon GO Trading and PvP Features Promised Again

Without a doubt, two of the most highly requested features for Pokemon GO that have yet to make it into the augmented reality title are trading and PvP, as Niantic has been assuring fans that they are coming ever since the game’s inception. Just recently, Tsunekazu Ishihara, the chief executive officer of Tokyo-based Pokemon, discussed the future of the mobile game, and he ended up promising yet again that trading and PvP features are on the way.

Ishihara stated as much during an interview with Bloomberg Technology, with the CEO revealing that Pokemon GO has bigger plans in the works – chief among them being trading and PvP. However, he didn’t reveal when players should expect to see these features get added, instead listing them as a priority that will enable the game to have “fundamental Pokemon experiences.”

“We’ve only accomplished 10 percent of what Pokemon and Niantic are trying to do, so going forward we will have to include fundamental Pokemon experiences such as Pokemon trading and peer-to-peer battles, and other possibilities.”

For those unaware, aside from Ishihara’s statement above, the most recent update involving the status of trading and PvP features in Pokemon GO came from Niantic CEO John Hanke about a couple of months ago. According to Hanke, the issues that occurred during Pokemon GO’s launch month forced the developer to push some of its planned features back – including PvP and player trading – but the creators are still working on including them in the game.

Taking all of this into consideration, while it’s a good sign that Pokemon CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has acknowledged fans’ desire for trading and PvP, there’s no telling when they will be incorporated into the title. After all, the game still has a litany of issues that need to be addressed first before any new elements make their way into the next update. For instance, there’s a fresh bug that won’t load the new legendary Pokemon. So, it’s safe to say that before trading and PvP go live in Pokemon GO, Niantic will need to ensure that the title’s as pristine as possible in order to avoid potentially releasing the features in a broken state.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android.
