The latest Pokemon GO update, dubbed version number 0.105.1 on Android devices, didn’t add much to the game in terms of real changes, but it potentially confirmed a Chinese rumor for Larvitar’s upcoming June Community Day. Beyond that, the update also reset the Buddy walking changes that occurred throughout Adventure week and reduced the game’s metadata from 1.46 MB to 1.39 MB.

Of course, the latter mentioned aren’t really worth addressing, as it was either an expected reversion or an underwhelming code change. However, this Pokemon GO update adds a sound effect file for a move not yet included in the game, namely Smack Down. This addition is significant in a number of ways.

First off, it seemingly confirms the rumors that Larvitar’s exclusive move for Community Day would be Smack Down. This information leaked through the in-game press release for the Chinese version, which when translated, revealed Larvitar would learn the aforementioned move if evolved during the Community Day event.

Moreover, the addition of this move would significantly change Tyranitar’s role in the metagame, elevating it to a status above Golem, which is currently the best Rock-type attacker in the game. Smack Down is a fast Rock-type move akin to Rock Throw, at least that’s how it’s listed in the current GAME_MASTER files. However, it’s worth mentioning that Niantic could decide to change this before Community Day, as it did with Charizard’s Blast Burn.

Nevertheless, many Pokemon GO players may be excited to get their hands on a Smack Down Tyranitar, especially considering the increasing popularity of Community Day. Even players who are not into the competitive scene can look forward to obtaining a Shiny Tyranitar during the event, as shiny versions have been featured during every Community Day event. With the event coming soon, expect to hear more about Smack Down in the coming days.
