Weather Week is an new event coming to Pokémon GO, with the first-ever one bringing the Shiny Rainy Form of Castform alongside variants of other rainy weather-prone Pokémon to the game. Pokémon GO has never shied away from events within the game, but it’s interesting to see developer Niantic still introducing new event types to the mobile ARG’s routine five years down the line.

Pokémon GO has gone from being a content-light mobile novelty that teased live the universal fantasy of being a Pokémon Trainer. But since release, the game has been continuously updated and added to create a viable multiplayer game that has plenty for a variety of players to do. Features such as battling, trading, events, research assignments, and a greatly expanded roster of creatures to collect have made Pokémon GO a meaty experience for those looking to catch ’em all.

According to Niantic, the first Weather Week event will run from March 24 – 29. The limited-time meteorological celebration will make Pokémon that can be more commonly found during real-world rainy days appear more frequently. It also marks the arrival of the Shiny Rainy version of weather Pokémon Castform, and the similarly apt Therian Forme Thunderous will feature in 5-star Raid Battles. Timed field research assignments will also be added, as well as exclusive cosmetics.

The new event will join a solid rotation of ever-changing content that Niantic cycles in and out of the game regularly. These provide reasons to return to the game regularly, with new and different forms of Pokémon being the strongest draw in Pokémon GO’s arsenal. Niantic also uses these routine patches to continue adding new features to the game, which could one day even include Microsoft Hololens support.

Pokémon GO continues to supply an increasingly authentic mobile Pokémon experience layered under a grindable and enjoyable multiplayer game. Players have until the end of March to take advantage of the ongoing Season of Legends event that will run concurrently with Weather Week. This month-long season saw brand new forms of existing Legendaries alongside new mega-evolutions being added to the game. This was just one of many large events that Niantic has added to the game in recent years, keeping the game fresh and new for novice and veteran players alike.
