Niantic has been hard at work making sure fans of Pokemon GO are entertained for the last stretch of time for 2020. Some of the new additions Niantic included into the game involves winter-themed Pokemon GO raid bosses for December to give the game a more festive feeling for the holidays.

Another update Niantic has implemented into Pokemon GO is the inclusion of XL Candies as an item for trainers to collect. XL Candy is a resource that players can use to boost their Pokemon’s CP at a larger rate than normal XP candies.

Unfortunately, XL Candies are only available to trainers who have passed level 40 in Pokemon GO. If this is the case for readers, then here is a list of the many ways trainers can grind for XP candies to make their team as strong as it can be.

The easiest way for trainers to gather XL Candies is through in-game activities such as catching and transferring Pokemon, hatching eggs in Pokemon GO, and catching a Raid Boss. Players also have the option to combine about 100 pieces of regular candy to convert them into one extra large sized Candy. According to Pokemon GO Hub, these tasks don’t always guarantee XL Candies. Different tasks give the trainer different amounts and chances to obtain XL Candies.

For catching a Pokemon, that is a 0 – 3 chance for an XL Candy. Catching a Raid Boss earns the player 1 XL Candy. Hatching a 5km Egg can give the player up to 16 XL Candy, and a 10km egg can give up to 24 XL Candy. Trading Pokemon with another trainer seems only to give about a ten percent chance for either trainer to get an XL Candy, or both if they are fortunate. However, according to Niantic’s update on Twitter, the company has put a temporary pause on XL Candy drops from trading as it tweaks the game’s code.

There is no difference in the chance of an XL Candy dropping for catching a normal Pokemon versus its evolved form, so players don’t have to worry about only catching tougher Pokemon. Sadly, Pinap Berries also do not impact the drop rate for XL Candies. Perhaps the quickest way for trainers to get XL Candies is through a Meltan Box, which can reportedly grant trainers up to 18 Meltan XL Candies. Although it should be noted that every trainer’s rate is different.

Hopefully, this guide helps gamers quickly grind through the XP system in Pokemon GO and reach the top of the leaderboards.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
