Pokémon GO’s Spring Event Offers Another Chance At Shiny Riolu

Pokémon GO’s springtime event is all about the eggs. That and a chance to get a shiny Riolu again.

Spring has finally sprung, so that means it’s time to celebrate the solstice with a Pokémon GO springtime event. Bunnies and eggs are the names of the game, and where neither of those quite fit, even tangentially related Pokémon will do the trick for Niantic.

Pokémon GO’s springtime event is set to begin next week starting on Thursday, April 9 at 8 AM local time. Since the coronavirus pandemic is still a thing, raids and gym-based events have been axed from the event but you can still catch and hatch a bunch of Pokémon solo, and there are even themed cosmetics available.

Starting with the Pokémon, egg and spring-themed ‘Mons will appear more often in the wild during the event. This means more Exeggcute, which are literal eggs; Chanseys, which are almost eggs; Mareep and Marill, which are egg-shaped; and Torchic, which is a flaming chicken and presumably lays eggs after it evolves into Blaziken.

Additionally, Buneary will appear in the wild wearing a brand new flower crown, and Pikachu is back wearing a flower hat.

Eggs will also get some themed possibilities in the form of Pichu and Togepi wearing adorable little flower crowns. You can also get Happiny, Munchlax, Tyrogue, Chingling, and Riolu. All come from 2 km eggs, and all could be shiny, although the event doesn’t specifically mention an increased chance of shininess.

Riolu has appeared for the second time since the Valentine’s Day event in February. Such simpler times.

From event-exclusive Field Research tasks you can encounter Alolan Exeggutor, Azumarill, and Audino, all very much in-theme, and you can purchase a Togepi backpack or hoodie from the in-game shop.

Half distance egg hatching is still in effect, so you can really get your hatch on during this event. You also get twice as much candy per hatch, and a Lucky Egg lasts for a full hour.

Pokémon GO’s springtime event runs from April 9 to April 16 at 10 PM local time.
