Ninantic’s Pokémon GO has a variety of eggs for players to collect and hatch Pokémon from. One of the newest types of eggs are Strange Eggs, which are tied to the ongoing threat of Team GO Rocket within the game.

While players primarily catch Pokémon that spawn at random on Pokémon GO’s map, Pokémon can also be caught by hatching eggs. A player must walk a specific distance with an egg inside an incubator in order to hatch that egg. 2km, 5km, and 10km eggs can be collected from spinning Pokéstops, while 7km can be found by opening in-game Gifts. Ninantic frequently changes what Pokémon hatches from the eggs, and certain limited time events can reduce the walking distance required to hatch an egg.

Strange Eggs are a relatively new kind of egg associated with Team GO Rocket, and collecting them is a multi-step process. Strange Eggs are only given to a player when they defeat a Team GO Rocket Leader. Players can only find a Team GO Rocket Leader after collecting 6 Mysterious Components, which are received after defeating a Team GO Rocket Grunt. Once a player has 6 Mysterious Components, they can assemble a Rocket Radar that will allow them to locate a Team GO Rocket Leader on the map. Once a Team GO Rocket Leader has been defeated, the Rocket Radar is used up, and players have to start the process of collecting Mysterious Components all over again before they can find and battle a new Team GO Rocket Leader.

What Hatches from Pokemon GO’s Strange Eggs

Strange Eggs are currently the most difficult to hatch as they require 12km of walking. Strange Eggs usually contain either a Dark or Poison-type Pokémon, or a Pokémon that will eventually evolve into a form that is a Dark or Poison-Type. Occasionally, Pokémon GO will release Pokémon that can only be found in Strange Eggs. For instance, Pokémon GO announced that Pancham, who previously was only found in Raids, will be hatching from Strange Eggs during the Luminous Legends Y event.

It’s important for players hoping to collect a Strange Egg to make sure they have plenty of room in their inventory. A player can have up to nine eggs normally; however, a recent change to Pokémon GO added a Bonus Storage section that will hold up to three eggs dropped from Adventure Sync rewards or Team GO Rocket Leader battles. Since eggs cannot be deleted, this extra Bonus Storage is a helpful addition to Pokémon GO make sure that players don’t go through all the work of finding and defeating a Team GO Rocket Leader, only to not receive a Strange Egg.
