Here’s how you can get Mystery Gifts out of your brand new Pokémon Home.
Pokémon Home is the new system that allows you to gather all your Pokémon in one place. Not only does it allow you to transfer older Pokémon from the 3DS generation forward (for a monthly fee, of course), it also lets you transfer Pokémon quickly and easily between games in the current generation.
It also is a great way to get some free stuff thanks to the Mystery Gift system.
Mystery Gifts have been around in Pokémon for a long time. Historically, they were just a way for Nintendo to hand out Legendary or rare Pokémon during certain events, but that’s changing. With Pokémon Home, Mystery Gifts are also giving away Pokémon for completing certain tasks. You can even get items for use in actual Pokémon games. Here’s how.
Getting Mystery Gifts
Getting a Mystery Gift is pretty simple. First, log in to the mobile app version of Pokémon Home (the Nintendo Switch application cannot receive Mystery Gifts at this time). Next, hit the menu icon at the bottom of the screen beneath the displayed Pokémon. Then select “Mystery Gift” to be taken to the Mystery Gift sub-menu. Any available Mystery Gifts will be available in the Gift Box.
Pokémon received as Mystery Gifts will be deposited in the Pokémon Home Box. From there, you can transfer that Pokémon to Pokémon Sword & Shield for us in-game.
You can also get items, but they don’t work the same way as Pokémon gifts. Item Mystery Gifts provide a code that can be typed into Sword & Shield for the related item. This is a great way to give yourself a leg up on your journey to becoming the Galar League Champion.
Great, But What Can I Get With Mystery Gifts?
There are currently a few Pokémon available as Mystery Gifts with Pokémon Home. The first is Eevee, which you receive after successfully completing a Wonder Trade. Just place a Pokémon in the Wonder Trade Box, wait a few hours, and then someone will have randomly traded it for their Pokémon. The Mystery Gift Eevee will then appear in the Gift Box.
Next is Rotom, which you get after completing a GTS trade. This will be a little more difficult as GTS requires someone out there to actually want the Pokémon you’re offering, but provide something half-decent and someone is sure to take it off your hands. You’ll get Rotom as a Mystery Gift reward for your trouble.
Pichu is the third Mystery Gift you can acquire and is probably the easiest one. Completing any Pokémon Home Challenge is enough to unlock a Pichu gift. These challenges are as simple as placing a sticker on your Pokémon Home notebook, so place that sticker for your free Pichu.
Finally, there’s Pikachu. You get this mascot Pokémon after signing up for Pokémon Home, along with one of the three Kanto starters. They both have a Hidden Ability and don’t require you to pay for the service, so you might as well get these freebies.
As for items, here are all the available item codes that can be acquired as Mystery Gifts:
