Pokemon Home Price and Other Details Announced

Last year, Nintendo revealed Pokemon Home, a new service that would replace Pokemon Bank and allow players to transfer Pokemon from older games to newer entries in the series. Now new details have been announced for Pokemon Home, including how much the service will cost.

Nintendo has revealed that Pokemon Home has two versions: Basic and Premium. Pokemon Home Basic is available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices free of charge, but it only stores up to 30 Pokemon at a time. With Pokemon Home Basic, players are able to have three Pokemon in their Wonder Box and one in the GTS for trades. Pokemon Home Basic does not allow players to host Room Trades, but they can trade with friends.

Pokemon Home premium costs $2.99 for 1 month, $4.99 for 3 months, and $15.99 for 12 months. In exchange for their subscription, Pokemon Home Premium users are able to store up to 6,000 Pokemon at a time, as well as transfer Pokemon from the Pokemon Bank. Pokemon Home Premium users can also host Room Trades, use the “Judge” function, and store up to 10 Pokemon in the Wonder box at a time.

This gives Pokemon fans a lot more information about what to expect from the Pokemon Home service, but there is still one big unanswered question. It’s unclear what will happen if someone decides not to renew their Pokemon Home subscription. Perhaps players will simply lose access to Pokemon Home until they renew their subscription, though worst case scenario would be that their data is lost. Considering the backlash that would result from that, it seems unlikely that will be the case.

While Pokemon Home can theoretically be used by players to get some of their favorite Pokemon to Pokemon Sword and Shield, it should be noted that not every Pokemon will be obtainable. The Pokemon Home service does not solve the National Pokedex controversy, meaning that there are still hundreds of Pokemon that are simply incompatible with the new games. Upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion packs will somewhat rectify this issue, but there will still be many Pokemon left out.

It’s been indicated that a full Pokedex won’t be in the cards for future Pokemon games either, but at least players will have a convenient place to store their favorite monsters in case they can’t bring them to the new games.

Pokemon Home launches in February.
