Die-hard Pokémon players will be rewarded with a unique version Coalossal by simply tuning into the Pokémon Players Cup 25th Anniversary Invitational.
Players that manage to catch the live stream of the tournament, hosted on the official Pokémon Twitch channel, will be treated to a unique code to unlock the powerful pocket monster. A password will be displayed throughout the Pokémon Players Cup 25th Anniversary Invitational that, when redeemed in Pokémon: Sword and Shield, will unlock a powerful version of Coalossal.
The Coalossal in question is based on the creature used by professional competitive Pokémon player Wolfe Glick. “Coalossal has proven itself to be quite valuable in competitive battles, as demonstrated by Santino Tarquinio and Wolfe Glick when they won the Pokémon Players Cup and the Pokémon Players Cup II, respectively,” according to The Pokémon Company.
Glick’s Coalossal will feature what is largely considered to be the best competitive move set for the Pokémon: Heat Wave, Meteor Beam, Protect and Solar Beam. Beyond that, the Coalossal will make use of the Steam Engine ability and will hold the Weakness Policy item. It will also feature a highly-trained Special Attack and will sport a Modest nature.
Celebrating the franchise’s long-running history, the Pokémon Players Cup 25th Anniversary Invitational will see eight of the best competitive Pokémon players coming together to battle it out. The tournament includes two different events, one focusing exclusively on the video game series and the other on Pokémon: The Trading Card Game. The tournament runs from Aug. 13 – 15, giving fans at home more than enough time to unlock their powerful Coalossal.
Coalossal made its debut in the most recent mainline game in the franchise, Pokémon: Sword & Shield. The game, and both of its major expansions, are now available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
