Pokémon How To Get Munchlax in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are faithful in many ways to their original sources, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, but they’ve changed how players can get Munchlax. Munchlax was one of the rarest Pokémon to find in the original Diamond and Pearl games for the Nintendo DS, and thankfully the challenge of trying to capture one is a lot less labor-intensive in the remakes. Dedicated fans of the original games knew that capturing a Munchlax took time, patience, and a whole lot of luck. It’s worth noting that Munchlax is not a version exclusive Pokémon in BDSP, so all trainers are able to find and catch it.

Munchlax is a Normal-type Pokémon, and the reason why it’s a great Pokémon to find is that it evolves into Snorlax. Snorlax is one of the most recognizable Pokémon from the original Pokémon Red and Blue games, and was a staple Pokémon in the TV show for a long time. In Diamond and Pearl, Snorlax was not only one of the best Normal-type Pokémon available, but it was also one of the strongest Pokémon all around. With a bit of luck, players could find a Munchlax early on in Diamond and Pearl, increase its happiness to maximum level, and obtain a Snorlax of their own sooner rather than later. Snorlax will undoubtedly become an asset in the Pokémon BDSP brutal postgame battles.

Thankfully, finding a Munchlax is easier in Pokémon BDSP because of the Grand Underground. While Munchlax still cannot be found in the wild, Pokémon BDSP no longer requires players to slather the Honey item on Honey Trees and wait six hours. Instead, players must first acquire the move Defog from an NPC in the Safari Zone, located in Pastoria City. Immediately after entering the Safari Zone, speak with the green-haired NPC located in front of the entrance. Afterward, defeat the Pastoria City Gym Leader and travel back to Sangem Town to use the Explorer Kit to enter the Grand Underground. Pastoria City is home to the fourth Pokémon BDSP Gym Leader, Crasher Wake, who specializes in Water-type Pokémon.

After using the Explorer Kit, players will need to find the Grassland Cave Hideaway in the southern part of the cavern, indicated on the map by a green square. Enter the Grassland Cave Hideaway and look around for Munchlax, but if it isn’t there leave the room and return in order to force respawn the Pokémon in the area. Although Munchlax has a rare spawn rate in the hideaway, it’s not nearly as rare as when players had to locate the four Honey Trees in the original Diamond and Pearl games. Once Munchlax has been spotted just run into the Pokémon to trigger a battle. This can be repeated as many times as desired, and the process of finding is the same Munchlax regardless of which copy of Pokémon BDSP players purchase.

To evolve Munchlax into Snorlax in Pokémon BDSP, trainers will need to raise Munchlax’s Friendship level in order to make it happy. This can be done by using Munchlax in battle, feeding it certain berries, and walking around with it outside of its Pokéball. Additionally, players can raise Munchlax’s Friendship level more quickly by capturing it with a Luxury Ball and giving it the Soothe Bell item to hold. The Soothe Bell can be found in the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212, and both it and the Luxury Ball increase the rate at which Pokémon become more friendly.
