2021 may well be the biggest year for Pokemon since we were first introduced to gen one’s monsters. It has been 25 years since that first introduction, and The Pokemon Company has been doing pretty much everything it can possibly think of to mark the occasion. Today is actually a Pokemon anniversary within its 25th anniversary. Two years since the launch of Pokemon Sword & Shield. Not quite as significant, but still something worth celebrating.

While Sword & Shield won’t be getting a song by Katy Perry or an Oreo crossover, you will still be able to celebrate. Pokemon’s Japanese YouTube channel is showing every episode of Twilight Wings as one long compilation. All eight episodes of the anime will be compiled into one long omnibus which begins at 9 pm JST, or 7 am EST, so set those alarms if you’re seeing this in time.

Twilight Wings has been chosen to mark the occasion because the mini-series is set in the Galar region and includes a number of characters from Sword & Shield. The region’s champion Leon, the Pokemon League’s Chairman Rose, and a number of the gym leaders you meet in the games. It is unconnected to the main Pokemon TV series and only ran for eight episodes. Seven initially and then an additional one based on Sword & Shield’s Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC.

Twilight Wings’ episodes are all less than ten minutes each and actually run independently of each other. It will be interesting to see whether Pokemon includes any additional footage to help connect each episode to the next since they will all be shown at once. The only thing connecting the episodes initially is Cabbie and his Corviknight. Some fans of the series are also hopeful the omnibus will include the announcement of additional content.

Sword & Shield’s second anniversary kicks off a big week for Pokemon. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the gen four remakes, launch this Friday. Last week, more information about the upcoming games was revealed, including the controversial confirmation that link trades and link battles won’t be available at launch. Since some Pokemon will be exclusive to one game or the other, that means you won’t be able to complete your Pokedex until a currently unscheduled future update.
