Ash and his friends have taken on many different evil organizations throughout the Pokémon anime. From villains attempting to steal the most powerful Pokémon to those trying to manipulate the state of the world in their favor, Pokémon has given rise to some memorable evil faces during its decades-long runtime. Of all the different challenges Ash has faced, however, Team Rocket appears to be the most persistent. Many years after the original series, Team Rocket remains active, with constant attempts to make the life of the anime’s star Pokémon trainer as difficult as possible.
Team Rocket is the original evil team of the Kanto region. Starring as the villains in the Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow video games, as well as being mentioned in later games set in the Johto region, Team Rocket has maintained its status as the iconic bad guy of the Pokémon series. Its goons even appear in Pokémon GO, terrorizing trainers all the while. However, some lapsed fans may wonder what Team Rocket is up to in the later seasons of the animated series.
The biggest insights into the doings of Team Rocket come from Pokémon’s Jessie, James and Meowth. The classic Team Rocket trio has followed Ash through every region he has traveled to, even up through Pokémon Journeys. The three regularly check in with Giovanni, who continues to be the head of Team Rocket operations somewhere in the Kanto region. Team Rocket has also received design updates and different logo designs throughout the various seasons of the show, suggesting change has been occurring in the organization behind the scenes.
Pokémon’s Team Rocket Continues To Get Into Trouble Outside Of Kanto
According to the Bulbapedia, Team Rocket was badly damaged after taking on the project that gave birth to Mewtwo, leaving the headquarters destroyed and requiring Giovanni to relocate. This could also mean the organization has struggled to get back on its feet, which would explain why Jessie, James and Meowth appear to be lone agents in other regions.
While Pokémon’s Team Rocket may not always host the front-running bad guys of the region Ash and his friends are actively exploring, there is something genuinely scary about how far-reaching Giovanni’s influence is, if Team Rocket members can travel and stick their noses into business from Kanto to Kalos. While there hasn’t been any official information about what Pokémon fans might be able to expect from Team Rocket in the future, it is clear it will remain a constantly looming threat in the Pokémon series.
