Pokémon Isle Of Armor How To Evolve Kubfu

Here’s how you can evolve Kubfu into one of the two forms of Urshifu.

There’s a new Fighting-type in Sword & Shield, one that’s far more adorable than any previous Fighting-type we’ve ever seen in Pokémon (sorry, Machop). Its name is Kubfu, and it’s a cute little teddy bear with a white headband, just like the Karate Kid.

Actually, that’s its fur. Which is similar to how Machamp’s wrestler belt is actually its skin, but far less gross.

Anyway, besides being the cutest little fighting bear you ever did see, Kubfu has a choice to make. You can evolve it into one of two different forms of Urshifu: Single Strike Style Urshifu or Rapid Strike Style Urshifu. Both Urshifus have the same base-stats but can learn either Dark or Water-type moves, depending on which Urshifu you choose.

How To Evolve Kubfu

Evolving Kubfu is a lot more involved than most Pokémon, which either just have to reach a certain experience level, friendship level, or stare at an elemental rock for a while. You gotta really put some love into Kubfu, so let’s go over just what exactly that entails.

Your first step to evolving Kubfu after you get it from Mustard at the Master Dojo is to just get the little guy to like you. In game terms, this means getting Kubfu to have a friendship stat of 70. This isn’t hard, and we’ve got a whole guide on how to accomplish this if you’re feeling stuck. In general, just use Kubfu in fights, feed and play with it, and maybe take it to see some of the sights. Before you know it, Kubfu will be your BFF and ready for step 2.

Which is getting Kubfu to a high enough level to take on the Tower of Two Fists. Kubfu needs to be at least level 70 in order to gain access to either the Tower of Darkness or the Tower of Water. Getting inside isn’t enough though; you gotta win! Beat every trainer and Mustard to reach the top of the tower and Kubfu will read the scroll and evolve.

If you take Kubfu to the Tower of Darkness, it’ll evolve into Single Strike Style Urshifu. If you take Kubfu to the Tower of Water, it’ll evolve into Rapid Strike Style Urshifu. If you’re having a hard time deciding which one you’d prefer, check out our previous guide to help make that decision.
