The Pokemon anime has been airing for decades now, with protagonist Ash Ketchum having a variety of companions at his side on his adventures. In the earliest episodes of the Pokemon anime series, Ash was aligned with Misty and Brock, the latter of whom joined Ash after being bested in a Gym battle. As the Pokemon anime series has continued, different companions have come and gone, but Brock remains a fan favorite.

Brock has been mentioned in the latest iteration of the Pokemon anime, Pokemon Journeys, but hasn’t made a full-blown appearance just yet. It’s looking like that will change with the upcoming four-part episode based on Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which will air in Japan on Amazon Prime later this month to coincide with the launch of the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive game. It’s difficult to say exactly what Brock will be doing in the anime special, but he can be standing alongside the likes of Dawn, Ash, and Goh in an image shared by a fan.

It’s unclear when exactly this Pokemon Journeys anime special will air outside of Japan. As it stands, Pokemon Master Journeys is airing on Netflix in the US, and it’s quite a ways behind the Japanese version of the show. Fans of the Pokemon anime will just have to stay tuned for more information on that front, but they shouldn’t expect to get to see the new episodes in time for Pokemon Legends: Arceus to launch on the Switch.

This is far from the first time that Brock has returned to the Pokemon anime series. Brock left Ash and Misty during the Orange Islands storyline, but later returned to explore the Johto region with his friends. He would then continue exploring the Pokemon world with Ash during the seasons of the show based on the Ruby & Sapphire and Diamond & Pearl games, though Misty didn’t return for those episodes.

Brock eventually left his friends again to become a Pokemon doctor, but has made sporadic appearances since, showing up in seasons of the Pokemon anime based on Pokemon Black & White as well as Pokemon Sun & Moon.

Brock’s return to the Pokemon anime series won’t be a permanent one, but it will be interesting to see what exactly he does in the four-part special once it airs in Japan later this month. In the meantime, Pokemon fans can look forward to the launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus on the Nintendo Switch come Friday, January 28.
