Pokemon Legends Arceus Diamond and Pearl Clans Explained

January is right around the corner, and now that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are out of the way, Pokemon Legends: Arceus can finally take center stage. Pokemon Legends: Arceus is probably one of the most anticipated Pokemon games in quite some time because of the way it shakes up the traditional formula, giving players a bigger world and ancient time period to explore, replacing gym battles with wardens and Noble Pokemon.

However, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are still referenced in a surprising way through Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and it only makes sense. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl take place in the Sinnoh Region, which was known as the Hisui Region in the past. Because Diamond, Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus take place in the same location, it makes sense to expect some connections. In Arceus, the biggest reference so far comes in the form of two clans in the Hisui Region that are simply called Diamond and Pearl.

Pokemon Legends Arceus Diamond and Pearl Clans Explained

Although the Diamond and Pearl clans don’t appear to have any connection with Dialga and Palkia, it’s interesting to see the pre-existing games represented in such a prominent way. A lot of the Hisui Region’s population appears to be divided between the two clans, with their own distinct beliefs and philosophies. The Diamond Clan is led by Adaman, a young man with blue hair who partners with Leafeon.

Adaman embodies the values of the Diamond Clan. He is bold, efficient, and is strongly against wasting time. Considering that traditionally, the Diamond game is associated with the time-controlling Pokemon Dialga, this philosophy fits well. Rather than focus in on the details, Adaman prefers to look at the big picture and get things done. The Pearl Clan operates differently, but both clans care about the Hisui Region and have wardens that protect Noble Pokemon.

The Pearl Clan is the opposite of the Diamond Clan and is led by Irida, a young woman who works with Glaceon as her partner Pokemon. While Adaman is bold and daring, Irida is more cautious and prefers to take her time making big decisions. Irida also takes some time to warm up to new people, and her trust must be earned. Irida and the Pearl Clan seem to have a healthy fear of the vast and mysterious Hisui Region, and as a result, they don’t rush into situations and are suspicious when encountering new people.

As the player helps the region by calming the wild Noble Pokemon, Irida slowly begins to trust and open up to the player. Palkia doesn’t tie into the Pearl Clan’s philosophy quite as well as Dialga ties into the Diamond Clan’s, but both clans dress in a way that resembles the Legendary Pokemon they are associated with. That association may be irrelevant in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but it will definitely be there for the players.

How Pokemon Legends: Arceus Connects to Diamond and Pearl

Despite technically taking place in the same location, Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are very different. The huge time difference between the two will make it hard to recognize the Hisui Region as the Sinnoh Region that players are used to, but there are sure to be some common threads between the games. The Diamond and Pearl Clans are just one example.

While not all the connections are clear yet, the trailer did feature characters referring to “Almighty Sinnoh” as an entity with authority over the Hisui Region. It’s unclear who they are referring to, but it’s possible that Arceus itself was once called Sinnoh. Players may discover why the region’s name was changed in the future and how it became the traditional Sinnoh Region.

Players who buy Pokemon Legends: Arceus and have save data in either Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl will also be given an additional research mission. By accepting and completing the mission, players have the chance to obtain the Mythical Pokemon Darkrai. The games stand independently from one another, but there are some little connections that players can look forward to.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases January 28, 2022, for Nintendo Switch.
