Rather than defeating gym leaders to earn badges, Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will need to calm five Noble Pokemon by repeatedly hitting them with special balms. The third of these Pokemon Nobles that players square off against is a Hisuian Arcanine, who they’ll eventually encounter in the Molten Arena area of the Cobalt Coastlands.

Before Pokemon Legends: Arceus players can reach the arena, however, they’ll first need to befriend Basculegion, a new Basculin evolution that’s able to carry people across water. This will allow them to travel to Firespit Island, where they’ll then need to defeat the Miss Fortune sisters in battle before the fight with Arcanine can finally get underway.

One of the first things that players will notice once the fight with the Lord of the Isles gets started is that the arena here is a lot more restrictive than the ones used for previous Noble battles. That said, there should still be more than enough room to successfully dodge Arcanine’s attacks, of which there are three that players will need to be aware of.

The first and most common attack used by the Level 36 Lord is a dash from one side of the arena to the other. Much like the earlier battle with Kleavor, players will know when Arcanine is about to charge forward as there’ll be an audio cue and its eyes will light up momentarily. Just like last time, they should dodge either left or right using the Y button when this happens and then start throwing balms right away.

It’s worth noting that players can still take damage when Arcanine is charging away from them if they’re standing too close to it when it launches itself forward. With this in mind, players should avoid standing directly behind Arcanine, instead using the areas to the left and right of the Pokemon and sticking as close to the edge of the platform as possible.

After a while, Arcanine will begin charging a devastating attack, though, thankfully, this is fairly easy to cancel. There’ll be five flaming balls above its head as it builds up energy, with each one disappearing with a successful balm hit. Once all five fireballs have been extinguished, Arcanine will get dizzy and players will have a chance to stun it by defeating it in an optional Pokemon battle.

As a Fire / Rock-type Pokemon, Hisuian Arcanine is incredibly weak to Ground and Water-type attacks. Those who chose Oshawott as their starter Pokemon are therefore at a bit of an advantage, though there are plenty of viable alternatives for those who didn’t. In the Cobalt Coastlands area alone, players can get their hands on the likes of Piplup (Spring Path), Mantine (Tranquility Cove), and Graveler (Firespit island).

About halfway through the battle, Arcanine will leap into the air and then land in the center of the arena, causing it to burst into flames that will continue to burn for the remainder of the fight. Players should still be able to dodge its charge attack fairly easily after this happens, but the flames may make it difficult to cancel its heavy attack if it gets a chance to use it while on the opposite side of the arena.

It is still possible to hit Arcanine with a Volcano Balm from across the flames, but players will need to aim high and hold the trigger a little longer than usual to increase the throwing distance. Alternatively, assuming they haven’t taken too much damage by this point in the fight, they can simply dive through the flames to close the gap. This will result in them taking damage, but far less than if Arcanine fully charges the move.

After the yellow frenzy meter at the top of the screen has been depleted, the recently evolved Arcanine will revert back to its normal form and hand over the Flame Plate. With normality now restored, players should make their way back to Jubilife Village and report back to Commander Kamado. Assuming they’ve already obtained a four-star ranking, they’ll then be able to visit the game’s fourth area, the Coronet Highlands.
