The upcoming open world game Pokémon Legends: Arceus marks a significant departure from features the Pokémon series has arguably become known for, partially because of the time period it takes place in. Set in the feudal era of the Sinnoh region, Pokémon are viewed as dangerous creatures rather than partners, and the landscape itself has significantly shifted away from what players may recognize from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Sinnoh region is instead known as the Hisui region, as revealed during August’s Pokémon Presents livestream. The presentation also provided a lengthy look at new gameplay features, characters, and more. Alongside a wide range of returning Pokémon from previous entries in the series, brand-new evolutions and regional variants will be introduced when the game launches in early 2022.
Not everything in Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisui region is unrecognizable, though. Mount Coronet – as featured in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl – is still the central piece of geography on the game’s map. The new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer also showcased quite a few areas that may look familiar to fans of the Sinnoh region, including a snowy plain that may equate to Snowpoint City. It’s unclear how drastically changed these familiar settings may be from the upcoming Sinnoh remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but there are already a few points to consider.
What Jublife Village Looks Like In Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Jubilife City is confirmed to be returning to the game, although within the Hisui region it’s instead known as Jubilife Village. The village serves as the center of operations for the Galaxy Expedition Team, in which Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ player character serves as part of the Survey Corps. Within the Galaxy Team headquarters, players will be provided with missions and assignments to tackle across Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ map. To that end, Jublife Village is still a relatively bustling area, similar to what can be seen in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It appears as though there will be plenty of NPCs to talk to as well as a significant commercial district in order to prepare for the journey.
Jublife City’s trading area returns in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as well. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, this was known as the Global Trade Station, a centralized area that allowed online players from Pokémon Generations IV and V to trade Pokémon and engage in other online features over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, this is instead known as the Trading Post, although the function will remain the same. Players will require a Nintendo Switch Online membership in order to access online Pokémon trading. As more footage is gradually released, it’s probable that additional details will be revealed regarding the makeup of the Hisui region. For the time being, though, the new trailer has provided plenty of clues to mull over.
