Pokemon Legends Arceus PreLoad File Size is Surprisingly Small

When Pokemon Legends: Arceus was first revealed, many believed it was a truly open-world adventure into the world of Pokemon. Many immediately compared to Zelda: Breath of the Wild in terms of design, similar art depictions, and as a general direction for beloved Nintendo franchises. However, as time would move, it would be confirmed that Pokemon Legends: Arceus was not a fully open-world game.

With its release near and just about everything from Pokemon Legends: Arceus to its Pokedex and other important information appearing online, many fans are excited to check it out on the release date, regardless of its open-world status. Those who are worried about storage space on their Switch, though, seemingly don’t need to.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Pre-Load File Size Confirmed

Players can pre-load the Pokemon Legends: Arceus file size now, and it’s surprisingly small. It comes in at crudely 6GBs. This doesn’t account for any possible day one patches or updates, however. While Switch games are nowhere near as colossal as PS5 and Xbox Series X, generally speaking, this still comes in as surprisingly small especially when one considers the file size of other related games. That includes factoring in a possible update or patch early on.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus File Size Comparisons

Despite having open-world elements, a more engaging overworld, and a few different features piled on, Pokemon Legends: Arceus comes in around the same size, if slightly smaller, than Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Pokemon Legends: Arceus’ pre-load file size is roughly half the size of Pokemon Sword and Shield, and unless the potential day one update is huge, it’s not likely to get close to Sword and Shield (which are around 13 GBs each). For further comparison, Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s file size also finds itself to be around 14 GBs.

While this may come across as a surprise, fans should keep in mind that file size doesn’t often relate to game quality. It sometimes comes down to file optimization, and it oftentimes doesn’t necessarily reflect on the quality of the game just because it’s bigger. The best thing to do with this information is to be grateful that Pokemon Legends: Arceus doesn’t take up much precious storage space on the Nintendo Switch and check out gameplay, reviews, and more when deciding to pre-load it now, in the coming days, or wait until after launch to pick it up.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases on January 28 for the Nintendo Switch.
