Shiny hunting is a Pokemon staple. Sure, you gotta catch ’em all, but that sweet feeling of finding a red Gyrados amidst an ocean of blue makes your ‘dex all the more special, so you grind even more for it. But in Arceus, you can save scum to make sure you don’t lose out on any wild Shinies you come across.

So long as you stay in the same zone and don’t scare away the Pokemon, it won’t despawn. You can return to your camp, frolic in the flowers, or catch other ‘mons to warm up – so long as the Shiny is there, it’ll stay there. But if you scare it away, that’s it – it’s gone. Unless you quit before the game autosaves.

Reloading your last save will bring that Shiny back as it reloads the area in the state you saved it in. With that, many are exploiting Arceus’ save system for guaranteed Shiny catches. People are turning off autosave when they see a Shiny and then manual saving so they can keep trying over and over to get the ‘mon, eventually succeeding.

But it goes beyond save scumming to stop yourself from losing out on a Shiny – you can even exploit RNG easier than in other Pokemon games.

“As best as people can tell, there’s a unique seed (similar to a Minecraft world seed) generated whenever you enter an area from the village that controls all Pokemon spawns,” one user replied to the thread. “This seed only resets upon returning to the village and reloading an area completely. Sleeping on the other hand will respawn any Pokemon that have run or fainted according to the existing seed.

“This means that for rarer spawns like Eevee, you can force it to respawn by simply warping back to camp and sleeping,” they continued. “And if it hasn’t spawned at a known spot, you can reset and try again by returning to the village and reloading the area.”

Getting Shinies is a lot easier in Arceus, evidently, but there are a couple of caveats. Autosave will ruin scum saving so if you want to do it, you’ll have to turn it off. And while a Shiny won’t despawn if you stay in the same area, it will if night falls. You’re on the clock. But it’s still easier, so there’s no better time to get hunting.
