A new trailer has released for Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the style of a found footage documentary, giving new insights into one of the areas where the game takes place. Pokémon Legends: Arceus will change the Pokémon formula in many ways, but will still task players with capturing and training Pokémon as they travel through a region, battling ever-stronger enemies.

The upcoming Pokémon title will take place in the Hisui region, which is the same location as the Sinnoh region from Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl set far in the past. Players will operate out of Jubilife Village, a predecessor of the city in Sinnoh of the same name. From their base, players will travel to different zones in the map to accomplish tasks, similar to the Monster Hunter series. It has been confirmed that previous reports were incorrect, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus will not be open world.

The area featured in the new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer released by The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel likely represents one of the zones featured in the game. The terrain is mountainous and snowy, but details are hard to make out due to the grainy nature of the footage. Several Snorunts are present in the area, and another unknown Pokémon that the narrator mistakes for both a Vulpix and Growlithe before realizing it is neither of those. The mysterious Pokémon apparently attacks and drags the narrator away, although the static in this creepy Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer prevents any clear view of what happens.

It is likely that the aggressive Pokémon in Arceus’ trailer is a Noble Pokémon, one of the boss fights of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The snowy area in the trailer differs greatly from the green plains and valleys that have been featured the most in the game’s marketing so far. This suggests that the zones of Pokémon Legends: Arceus will have a wide variety of terrain types for players to explore. The tone of this creepy Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer is much darker than anything else in the Pokémon games up to this point, and may provide a hint that the final release will follow a more serious plot.

Everything about Pokémon Legends: Arceus suggests major changes for the franchise. Pokémon has always been a series known for its incremental changes between releases, but Pokémon Legends appears ready to break that trend. Players will encounter Pokémon directly in the overworld, and it seems that Gym Leaders will not be in the game at all. The newest trailer makes it even more likely that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be far different to anything the franchise has offered before.
