A new update on the official Pokémon Legends: Arceus website is hinting that a Hisuian version of Voltorb or Electrode is on the way. Electrode and Voltorb are Pokémon that look just like Poké Balls, first introduced back in Pokémon Red and Blue.

Pokémon Red and Blue were created as standalone experiences, as Game Freak had no idea whether the games would be popular enough to warrant a sequel. The Pokémon series went on to become the most popular media venture of all time and is still producing games to this day. The timeline of the Pokémon series is sketchy at best and Game Freak doesn’t seem to be concerned with continuity. This is a series where new elements just pop into existence and everyone immediately accepts them, such as when Dark and Steel-type Pokémon appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver, or when Fairy-type Pokémon debuted in Pokémon X and Y, so continuity isn’t a factor.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an upcoming prequel game that is set in the distant past of the Sinnoh region, during an era when it was referred to as the Hisui region. The trainers in Pokémon Legends: Arceus use steam-powered Poké Balls to catch Pokémon. It seems that there will be steam-powered Electrode and Voltorb on the way as well. A post on the official Pokémon Twitter page has a message from the Ball Guy from Pokémon Sword & Shield. He’s asking fans to help pick up Poké Balls on the official Pokémon Legends: Arceus website. The website now has an animation where Poké Balls fall onto the screen. If the player clicks on the balls, then one of them will explode, clearing the screen. If the update isn’t appearing, then try disabling the “Reduce Motion” option on the website. This suggests that a Hisuian Electrode or Voltorb is on the way, as they are known for using moves like Explosion and Self-Destruct.

Hey there! It’s your mate, the Ball Guy! Trainers, since we are such good friends, I have a favor to ask. I was so excited to tweet that I dropped all my Poké Balls! Would you please help me pick them up? I dropped them all here! https://t.co/FvZVXIejCp pic.twitter.com/MwpZpuz7oA

The reveal of the new Poké Balls led some fans to speculate that Hisuian Electrode/Voltorb are on the way. The original version of these Pokémon from Pokémon Red and Blue are Electric-type Pokémon. If the new versions are based on steam-powered Poké Balls, then they will likely be Fire/Water-type Pokémon.

There have been a number of leaks regarding the new Hisuian forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Hisuian Electrode/Voltorb have been mentioned in the past. New versions of these Pokémon would raise all kinds of questions about the origins of Pokémon and how they change based on their environment, and it will be interesting to see some new takes on Pokémon that have yet to receive any new forms since the days of Pokémon Red and Blue.
