Since Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee are essentially remakes of Pokemon Yellow, there’s a lot about them that’s familiar. However, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee also have plenty of unique elements when compared to the original Pokemon Yellow as well, such as replacing Hidden Machines (HMs) with Secret Techniques.

In Pokemon Yellow and many other Pokemon titles, players had to find HMs to teach their Pokemon special moves that would help them better navigate the game world. This time around, players are able to teach Pikachu or Eevee Secret Techniques that function quite the same. One of the most useful Secret Techniques is Sky Dash, which is the Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee-equivalent of the HM Fly.

To teach Pikachu or Eevee how to fly in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, players will need to progress far enough in the story to reach Celadon City. From there, they need to beat Team Rocket leader Giovanni in the organization’s secret headquarters (hidden in the Gaming Corner building), and then when that’s done, they will want to return to the streets of Celadon City.

After Giovanni has been defeated, a man will be standing next to a flying machine outside of the Gaming Corner. Simply talk to him and he will teach Pikachu or Eevee the Sky Dash Secret Technique, which should make trips around the Kanto region a lot quicker.

Some players are happy to see HMs go, as they took up a Pokemon’s move slot and couldn’t be replaced with a different move later on. Not to mention this forced players to have a Pokemon with that particular HM in their roster at all times if they ever wanted to use it, with some players even keeping some Pokemon in their party whose sole purpose was to use HMs.

However, it’s worth pointing out that out of all the HMs, Fly was one of the most useful. Flying-type Pokemon could use it rather effectively in battle, so that’s one HM some fans may have wanted to stay.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
