Pokemon Lets Go How to Get Squirtle

Squirtle isn’t available as one of the starting Pokemon in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Let’s Go Eevee, but like the other original starters, it can still be found in the game. Here’s how players can fill out their Pokedex and add the tiny turtle Pokemon to their party.

Catch It

As one might expect, Squirtle can be caught in Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Let’s Go Pikachu. Wild Squirtles can be found on Route 24 and 25, in tall grass close to the water. Like all the starters, however, it spawns more rarely than other Pokemon in the area. Using a lure can help to spawn more Pokemon, which will increase the chances of finding Squirtle.

Adopt Squirtle

Pokemon Let’s Go also allows players to effectively adopt the original three starters from Pokemon Blue & Red, including Squirtle. Doing this takes a little more time than getting Charmander or Bulbasaur to the party, however.

Players will initially meet Officer Jenny guarding a house in Cerulean City. After heading north out of the the city and meeting Bill, the player will come to a dead end and can circle back to Cerulean through a different path. After jumping over a few ledges, the same home will come into view, where a Squirtle is now making trouble for the officer, akin to its introduction in the original Pokemon anime. Officer Jenny will run after it and disappear from Cerulean City. The player can then investigate the house and defeat the Team Rocket Grunt hiding behind it.

Once the player has finished up their business in Cerulean City, they can go through the Underground Path and make their way to Vermilion City. Officer Jenny and Squirtle will be standing in front of the town’s Pokemon Center. Officer Jenny is looking for a trainer to properly raise the troublemaker Squirtle, but will only hand it over if the player has caught at least 60 Pokemon. Otherwise, the player will have to come back later after they’ve accomplished the feat.

Squirtle makes a powerful addition to the party, especially once it evolves into Wartortle and Blastoise. While catching additional Squirtles after getting one for free might seem excessive, players will need all of Squirtle’s evolutionary forms in order to take on the Squirtle evolutionary family Master Trainers in the post-game, so getting at least three to keep one in each evolutionary stage is a good idea.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
