Pokemon Masters Trailer Reveals Blue’s Partner Pokemon
In a brand new Pokemon Masters trailer, the forthcoming mobile game reveals the partner pokemon for the fan-favorite manga character, Blue Oak (Gary in the anime).

In a brand new trailer, Pokemon Masters reveals the Pokemon partner for trainer Blue Oak, otherwise known as Gary Oak in the anime. The forthcoming mobile focuses on gathering iconic trainers from throughout the series, including all past Pokemon trainers such as Brock and Misty, and competing in 3v3 battles. Each trainer to appear in the game will only have one partner Pokemon, which is a break from tradition in the long-running series.
Nonetheless, it is an interesting gimmick for Pokemon Masters, with the game slowly revealing more over time. Blue’s Pokemon partner is somewhat surprising, though not entirely, as he has had a plethora of Pokemon throughout his run. These include his iconic Scizor, Charizard, Pidgeot, Golduck, Machamp, Porygon2, Rhypherior, Pumpkaboo, Ninetales, Exeggutor, Alakazam, Arcanine, and many more that he hasn’t shown or used.
Although the obvious choice for a partner Pokemon would be Scizor, since it was his first Pokemon that he trained from a Scyther since youth, Blue’s partner pokemon is Pidgeot in Pokemon Masters. Since Red’s partner pokemon is a Charizard, it makes sense for Blue to not use his, but it could just be that developer DeNA thought Pidgeot would be better suited than Scizor. It’s also worth mentioning that every Pokemon in the game has a special move, but Pidgeot’s has not been revealed yet.
Other notable trainer and partner Pokemon reveals include Brock’s Onix, Misty’s Starmie, Lance’s Dragonite, Cynthia’s Garchomp, Steven Stone’s Metagross, and many more. Each of the aforementioned pairs is almost synonymous throughout both the comics and the anime, so there’s no guesswork in the decision here.
Regardless, when Pokemon Masters launches, it’ll be interesting to see how it does against other Pokemon mobile games. Pokemon GO is adding new Shadow Pokemon to the game and is a prime example of a strong Pokemon Mobile game, as it has been going strong for the past three years. It’s unknown if Pokemon Masters will experience the same type of longevity, but it’s worth highlighting that the idea belongs to Ken Sugimori, the co-creator of Pokemon and designer of the original 151 Pokemon.
Pokemon Masters will launch this summer for Android and iOS mobile devices.
