The next Pokémon mobile game is here and it’s already available in the land down under, as Pokémon Rumble Rush is the latest smartphone game in the series.

Pokémon Rumble Rush is an upcoming smartphone game that will be available for Android and iOS devices. The game will involve tapping on enemy Pokémon in order to make your own Pokémon attack, which makes it sound suspiciously like Final Fantasy All the Bravest. Pokémon Rumble Rush will involve exploring islands that change every two weeks and will feature new Pokémon. It will be possible to evolve and improve your current team of Pokémon by collecting the ore that you find on each island. The game is currently available on Android devices in Australia, but not in other regions.

The original Pokémon Rumble game was released for WiiWare in 2009 and it would receive two sequels on the Nintendo 3DS, while Pokémon Rumble U would be released for the Wii U. Pokémon Rumble U was notable for the fact that it was Nintendo’s first attempt at using NFC figurines with their games, which the company would use to much greater effect with its amiibo line.

The incredible success of Pokémon Go has prompted the release of several other Pokémon mobiles games, none of which have yet to reach the levels of popularity of Niantic’s title. It makes sense for the Pokémon Company to want to try and port established Pokémon spinoff games onto mobile phones in order to see if they will attract an audience, but the Pokémon Rumble games were just mindless button tapping games and the Pokémon license barely had an impact on its setting.

The lineup of Pokémon smartphone games has included the likes of Pokémon Quest and Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, which were little more than fun diversions that the player could finish in a short period of time. Pokémon Rumble Rush seems like it will be cut from the same cloth, as the Pokémon Company doesn’t seem interested in developing a true Pokémon RPG for smartphones, especially with Pokémon Sword & Shield on the horizon.

Pokémon Rumble Rush is available on Android devices in Australia and will soon be available in other regions and for iOS devices as well.
