Pokemon Sword and Shield Adding a New Region in DLC Would Be a Good Thing

It is currently unknown if Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will be receiving more DLC after the release of the Crown Tundra this fall. However, many fans are holding out hope for even more content to be released throughout the future.

One of the biggest wishes for players in Pokemon Sword and Shield is the addition of a new region to explore in future DLC, which would contain its own Pokemon league and gym leaders as well as new Pokemon to catch. Another benefit of a new region would be in how many existing Pokemon would likely be able to return to the current generation without being left behind. This could include many fan favorites such as the starters from other regions and various others.

The Kalos Region and Mega Evolution?

While a new region would be great to see, many would probably understand if that’s a little out of scope for DLC content. However, there are plenty of rumors spiraling about the return of the Kalos region.

The Kalos region is the region of the sixth generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. It is based off the country of France and introduced both Mega Evolution and fairy-type Pokemon into the series. This means that if it were to return, all Pokemon appearing in the Kalos region as well as Mega Evolution may be returned to Pokemon Sword and Shield.

The main evidence for this theory is in how the Galar region has an extensive system of trains and there is an unused train station that the player cannot use in the Kalos region. With Galar being based on the UK and Kalos being based on France, it’s entirely possible for these regions to be very close to each other. If this is the route that Sword and Shield is going to take in the future, Kalos might be considered to be the Kanto region to Galar’s Johto. This might also mean that players would be able to fight the player characters of X and Y as the champion instead of Diantha.

One of the biggest benefits that was mentioned earlier was the return of Mega Evolution. Many of the Pokemon spin-off games such as Pokemon GO and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX have been taking advantage of the Mega Evolution mechanic as of late. This might be a sign of the mechanic being an important part of the series once more, and while it us unlikely Dynamaxing and Mega Evolution could go hand in hand, a Kalos Mega Evolution going against a Galar Dynamax form would make for some interesting in-game battles, even if comp decided to keep the two separatae.

If Mega Evolution were to return, many more Mega Evolutions may be released as well. This could include Mega Evolutions for all the starter lines, different Mega Evolutions for regional variants, and possibly new legendary Mega Evolutions. Of course, this would also mean that many of the old Mega Evolutions have the possibility to return as well. It is currently unknown if there is going to be another piece of DLC made for Pokemon Sword and Shield after the Crown Tundra DLC is released or if Game Freak is simply going to move on to its next project. Until solid news is confirmed, fans can only speculate on what the expect in the future.
