Fans have uncovered a new secret in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as there are animations hidden in the stats page for each creature. Pokémon Sword and Shield are the latest mainline entries in the series, which means fans haven’t had as much time to dig into their content.

The popularity of the Pokémon series means that fans have always gone digging through the files of each game as soon as they’re available. It usually doesn’t take long for fans to discover all of the Mythical and Legendary Pokémon that are hidden in the game. Sword and Shield broke from series tradition by introducing DLC to the games after they released, adding 200 new Pokémon to the Galar region. The older games, by contrast, needed to have everything coded in already, which is why all of their secrets were usually discovered within days of their release.

There are some secrets in the Pokémon video games that managed to elude fans for years, though. According to a Reddit post from user Quirky_Image, fans have discovered that there are animations for every Pokémon within the stat page of Pokémon Sword and Shield. This was something that wasn’t widely known until now, as players generally only go to the summary page with a specific purpose in mind, and wouldn’t need to try out all of the buttons, as they might do on the overworld.

In order to access these animations, select “Pokémon” on the menu, select a Pokémon on the team, click “Check summary”, and press in the left stick. This can also work by using “Check summary” on Pokémon that are still in the Box. If done correctly, the Pokémon will start cycling through attack animations, some of which can allow them to bypass the borders/text on the page. The example video shown on Reddit features an Obstagoon leaping forward and covering all of its stat data with its body during the attack.

It’s incredible that Pokémon fans are still discovering little things like these in the games, even though they were released years ago. It took Pokémon Red and Blue fans nearly twenty years to discover that Normal-type Pokémon cannot be paralyzed by Body Slam, even though it’s a major part of the competitive scene, so the Galar players of the world shouldn’t feel too dismayed about missing such a relatively easy secret in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
