Pokemon Sword and Shield’s first DLC has a release date now thanks to a new trailer. The video focuses on the upcoming Isle of Armor expansion, and alerts fans that it will be coming as soon as June 17th, but it also shows another piece of new information in the form of Galarian Slowbro.
Galarian Slowpoke was revealed back in January, but since then only small hints and teases have been shown of Galarian Slowbro. Because of this, many correctly assumed that the pokemon would get the spotlight of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor DLC release date trailer.
Unfortunately, Galarian Slowking’s appearance still remains a mystery, and there were no other new Pokemon shown in the trailer, but that isn’t to say that there won’t be anything new on June 17th. The official release is just over two weeks away and the new trailer confirms that Isle of Armor is not delayed, so fans don’t have long to wait.
Galarian Slowbro looks similar to the original form with the main difference being the placement of the Shelder. Rather than getting bit on the tail, Galarian Slowbro was bit on the arm, and according to the official Pokemon website, this triggered a chemical reaction resulting in a type change. The Pokemon’s new type is Poison/Psychic, which not only gives it a well balanced list of weaknesses, but also makes it the first and only Poison/Psychic type Pokemon in any of the games. With this type combo, Galarian Slowbro is weak to Ground, Ghost, and Dark, and resists Poison, Grass, Fairy, and Fighting (double resist). Every other type is neutral.
Galarian Slowbro’s ability is Quick Draw, which is unique to it and its effects are currently unknown. The description on the website explains that although Slowbro is “normally zoned out,” strong opponents send it into an adrenaline fueled state in which it gains focus and speed that are difficult to match. It will be interesting to see how this works exactly in game, but it will likely be some kind of speed boost when facing higher level opponents.
Finally, Galarian Slowbro has a unique, signature move as well, called Side Arm. The Shellder attached to its arm can be fired like a weapon, and when Galarian Slowbro does so it shoots out a poisonous stream. This has the potential to poison enemies but also deals either special or physical damage depending on which the target is weaker to.
Pokemon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor expansion releases June 17th.
