Dhelmise, the Sea Creeper Pokémon, is a Grass/Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII of the series. In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Dhelmise was a very difficult Pokémon to catch, but with SOS chaining, the chances to encounter Dhelmise can go up to 35%. However, there isn’t any SOS chaining in Pokémon Sword and Shield, so this Pokémon is even harder to catch.
This powerful Pokémon has a unique typing that is only shared with the Phantump and Pumpkaboo evolution lines. It boasts a huge 134 base Attack stat, and in competitive play, it is a Pokémon with the rare ability to use Rapid Spin as well as block the enemy’s use of Rapid Spin. It also has a strong ability, Steelworker, which strengthens all of its Steel-type attacks by 50%, including its signature move Anchor Shot. This guide will go over where and how trainers can catch this impressive Pokémon in Generation VIII.
Where and How to Find Dhelmise is Pokémon Sword and Shield
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Dhelmise can only be found on Route 9 or in Max Raid Battles. Within Route 9, players can encounter the Sea Creeper Pokémon in Circhester Bay or Outer Spikemuth. Here, Dhelmise has an incredibly low chance to spawn. It’s only one percent! Luckily for trainers trying to catch this rare Pokémon, it is an overworld spawn that players can encounter in any weather type.
With a one percent chance to encounter Dhelmise, the process of finding one can be painstakingly long. In order to maximize their chances, players should instill a short, efficient practice. Players should take the Flying Taxi to Route 9, and go through the first two patches of grass towards the left of Outer Spikemuth. If Dhelmise isn’t there, players need to go into Spikemuth from where they landed with the Flying Taxi, and then go back onto Route 9. The loading screen here will reload some the overworld spawns, which is why Pokémon that have overworld spawns are generally easier to find. Keep repeating this process and eventually, Dhelmise will be found. Another way to increase the chance of running into this Grass/Ghost Pokémon is to use the ability Harvest. Similar to Flash Fire, if players have a Pokémon with Harvest in the first slot of their party, the chance a Grass-type Pokémon spawns will increase. However, the only evolution line that has this ability in Pokémon Sword and Shield is Phantump and Trevenant, but Harvest is their Hidden Ability, so players will have to grind out Max Raid Battles or breed for it.
