As Trainers advance through Pokemon Sword and Shield, they will find a variety of ways to evolve Pokemon in the Galar region. Some of these evolution methods will be stumbled upon naturally, while others may require that players put in a little more work, as is the case with evolving Milcery, the pre-evolved form of Alcremie that was revealed back in July.

To evolve Milcery in Pokemon Sword and Shield, players need to give it a special item and then rotate their control stick in the Overworld. When done successfully, the Trainer will perform a dance and instantly trigger the Alcremie evolution.

To note, Alcremie can transform into a number of different forms depending upon the time of day that the evolution is performed, the item it is holding, the direction that the control stick is rotated, and the length of time the stick is rotated for. Before putting this all together, though, Pokemon Sword and Shield Trainers will need to gather the ingredients first.

How to Catch Milcery in Pokemon Sword and Shield

The first step is to catch a Milcery, and it can be found on Route 4 or in the Bridge Field and Giant’s Mirror sections of the Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild Area. On Route 4, Milcery has a 20% chance to be encountered, and it has a 30% chance to be encountered in the Bridge Field or Giant’s Mirror parts of the Wild Area, but only during foggy weather.

Players should be aware that Milcery and other Pokemon in Route 4 are Level 13-15, and they are Level 26-28 in the Wild Area sections indicated above. Trainers should thus bring Pokemon with powerful moves along with them, and it is worth mentioning that Milcery won’t be visible on the Overworld map and needs to be found through random, non-Overworld encounters in the grass.

After a player catches a Milcery, the Pokemon needs to hold one of a variety of different sweets in order evolve into Alcremie. These sweets can be obtained randomly through completing Battle Cafe dailies, and this can be done in one of the three Battle Cafes found in these Pokemon Sword and Shield towns: Motostoke, Hammerlocke, Wyndon. Motostoke is the earliest and easiest one that trainers can get to.

Notably, the sweet that the Milcery holds when evolving will serve to decorate the resulting Alcremie, as it will be affixed on either side of its head, and players should choose accordingly. When the desired sweet is picked, players can reference the list below to determine what method will yield the Alcremie of the preferred variety. As previously mentioned, the input should be done in the Overworld.

Vanilla Cream: Spin clockwise during the day.

Ruby Cream: Spin counter-clockwise during the day.

Matcha Cream: Spin clockwise during the night.

Salted Cream: Spin counter-clockwise during the night.

Mint Cream: Spin counter-clockwise for more than five seconds during the night.

Lemon Cream: Spin clockwise for more than five seconds during the night.

Ruby Swirl: Spin counter-clockwise for more than five seconds during the day.

Caramel Swirl: Spin clockwise for more than five seconds during the day.

In the end, creating different flavors of Alcremie is a fun, innovative approach for the series which continues cooking up new ways to evolve Pokemon.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
