Pokémon Sword and Shield How To Find & Evolve Whismur Into Exploud

Pokémon Sword & Shield’s first DLC, the Isle of Armor, dropped on June 17th, bringing with it a slate of new and returning entries to flush out Galar’s Pokédex. Among the returning is the Normal-type Pokémon, Whismur from Gen 3.

Whismur is ironically known as the whisper Pokémon in contrast to its predilection for ear-splitting uproars. Whismur’s startling tantrums only grow stronger as it evolves to Loudred and can become outright deadly by the time it’s transformed into Exploud. Learn where to capture and how best to utilize this deafening Pokémon below.

Finding Whismur & Raising It To Exploud

Trainers can find Whismur and Loudred in Pokémon Sword & Shield’s first expansion, the Isle of Armor, roaming the overworld of Brawler’s Cave during most weather conditions. Trainers won’t find Exploud roaming the wilds, but the entire chain is available to challenge within Max Raid dens throughout the Soothing Wetlands, Courageous Cavern, Training Lowlands. Whismur has a simple evolution chain, transforming into Loudred at level 20 and Exploud at level 40, with no prerequisites such as held items, trade, or the like.

A Deafening Move-set

This Pokémon has bountiful HP and is equally proficient with both physical and special based attacks, giving it a vast arsenal of combos and strategies to choose from. Upon evolving to its final form, Exploud can learn Crunch, the ever-reliable Dark-type move, which additionally weakens the target’s defenses. However, trainers should keep a lookout for an Exploud with the egg move Extrasensory, which is a much better alternative to fend against the Normal-type’s one significant weakness to Fighting types. Teaching the Pokémon a TR like Zen Headbutt is a smart option as well.

Exploud learns Uproar at level 45 and Hyper Voice at level 63, which both hit with significant impact. However, when Exploud reaches level 72, it learns Boomburst, a devastating attack that strikes the entire battlefield. This is the Pokémon’s most substantial move by far and shouldn’t be passed up.

Whismur’s family chain is only one of many that were reintroduced to the Pokédex with this first part of Sword & Shield’s expansion pass. Check out the full list of returning Pokémon then head over to TheGamer’s master dex to find and evolve ’em all!
