Since it was first announced, Pokemon Sword and Shield have showcased a ton of changes coming to the next-gen titles. This includes everything from removals such as Z-Moves and Mega Evolutions, additions such as Dynamax and Gigantamax forms, the lack of a National Dex, the ability to skip the tutorial, a controversial change to the Exp Share, and more. The latest shakeup addresses how Pokemon storage will work.
In past games, Pokemon fans only had one way of accessing their boxes for stored Pokemon. They had to access the terminal in a Pokemon Center, which are usually located in towns, but that no longer seems to be the case. Now, Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Sword and Shield players will be able to access the box almost anywhere, making the whole process a “breeze.”
Notably, “almost anywhere” means there’s going to be a few exceptions. There’s no telling what areas could prevent this access, but presumably this could include Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Wild Area. Gyms also seem like a good area, but regardless of where it’s excluded, this is bound to be a useful and welcomed feature. After all, with the Exp Share continuously in effect, this will make swapping and training additional Pokemon all the easier.
Beyond this, there have also been confirmations of the games’ first online competition and its first major event. Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Gigantamax event will see more spawns of Gigantamax Pokemon through January 2020, which likely means that there will be an increased number of raids for the first few months. Hopefully, this is just the first step in post-launch support.
It’s also nice to see new confirmations from the games’ developer and publishers, as many Pokemon fans have been keeping up with leaks as a source of recent news. Everything from Sobble, Grookey, and Scorbunny’s evolution lines to the legendary Pokemons’ types has recently been leaked, which while many dread the idea of spoilers, builds a fair amount of hype for the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield.
