Throughout Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Galar Region are entire sets of species and sub-species of Pokemon. But when players attempt to trade at random for a certain species of Pokemon, ensuring they get the one they’re looking for can be frustratingly low. Luckily some clever trainers have come together to create a series of trade codes that will resolve this.
These codes were created to ensure that when trading Pokemon, players would be matched with the species they’re looking for. If a Pokemon Sword and Shield player is looking for a Ditto, for example, by using the right code they can be sure they’re getting one. This new feature is called Link Trading, and is the antidote to unknown trades that comes with some other cool features too.
With the right know-how, Pokemon Sword and Shield players can even trade Pokemon along with some unique items too.
Link Trade
The newest trade feature in Pokemon Sword and Shield is Link Trading, and is luckily a fairly simple thing to set up. The first step for Pokemon Sword and Shield players is to ensure they’re connected to the internet. Once the connection has been verified, the next step is to press Y, and open up the trade menu. For the more impatient trainers, at the top right of the trade menu the word “Internet” will be written if they’re online.
There should be an option that says “Link Trade.” Once players have clicked this, they can either “Start Trading” or “Set Link Code.” The key is to select “Set Link Code,” and to set one of the below codes that corresponds with the species of Pokemon players are eager to get their arms around.
Final Confirmation
To confirm the selection, players should click the “Yes” button. From there Pokemon Sword and Shield players will be taken back to the game. What they see and how long they may have to wait will depend entirely on the code that’s being utilized. Once a match has been made, players should receive this message: “A trade partner has been found! Time for a trade!”
The way this matchmaking system works is that it matches Pokemon Sword and Shield players that are using the same code together. Once a match has been found, a new screen will pop up with each player’s respective Pokemon storage. This is where players will select the species they agreed to trade beforehand. Should Pokemon Sword and Shield players have duplicates, they need only check the Pokemon’s details in question to ensure they’re selecting the right one.
After confirming the selection, Pokemon Sword and Shield players should be able to see the Pokemon they’re sending. To ensure players don’t waste a potentially lucrative Pokeon, they should confirm the Pokemon they’ll be receiving before accepting the trade. The internet has always been known for hosting a scam or two, and Link Trades in Pokemon Sword and Shield are certainly no exception to this rule.
Players should be sure to double check that the Pokemon they’re about to receive is the one they signed up for.
