Pokemon Sword and Shield Use This Code for a Partner Cap Pikachu

With the Crown Tundra DLC right around the corner, Pokemon Sword and Shield fans are closer than ever to new Galarian adventures. In the meantime, The Pokemon Company has given players the opportunity to collect eight different behatted Pikachu, all wearing hats that Ash has sported in the anime.

This code hasn’t been officially “revealed” yet, but nonetheless meticulous fans uncovered it, and The Pokemon Company shortly thereafter quietly updated its website. 1CH00SEY0U will grant Pokemon Sword and Shield players their own Partner Cap Pikachu, which wears Ash’s hat from Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You!

Unfortunately, fans now know that these Pikachu will all feature the same move-set (Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Iron Tail, Electroweb,) so the only difference to expect lies in the headwear. Nonetheless, Partner Cap Pikachu is the third of eight total unique Pikachu being distributed before the release of the Crown Tundra, and the first of which hails from a specific Pokemon movie.

The code, 1CH00SEY0U, can be redeemed via Mystery Gift, and allows an instant download of the special Pikachu. The process requires an internet connection, but is otherwise fairly straightforward:

The other two Pikachu currently available via Mystery Gift are Ash’s Cap Pikachu and Hoenn Cap Pikachu, which sport Ash’s original Season 1 “chapeau,” and Ash’s Generation 3 cap, respectively. They can be unlocked by the same method, and feature the same four moves, though there is one hidden bonus: all eight Pikachu will be able to learn the powerful Volt Tackle from the in-game move relearner.

Volt Tackle, made popular by the Pokemon anime series, is essentially an electrically charged version of the self-damaging Take Down. It makes Pikachu one of Ash’s strongest assets, and historically speaking, is only accessible to Pikachu born from a parent that was holding the rare “Light Orb” item while mating. This isn’t quite as thoughtful as past series-based Pikachu move-sets, but the easy access to Volt Tackle is certainly appreciated.

Players would be wise to keep their eyes on the official Pokemon site – these codes have been pouring out rather quickly, and regardless of leaks, Crown Tundra arrives on October 22, so there’s barely any time to spare. The next five codes will feature hats from Poke-continents like Unova and Kalos, and even Ash’s latest from Pokemon Journeys. Needless to say, fans shouldn’t be surprised if they suddenly encounter a decked out squad of behatted Pikachu while battling online.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now on Nintendo Switch. The Crown Tundra DLC will be available for purchase on October 22, 2020.
