Before Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, the only way trainers could add a Kirlia to their team was by evolving Ralts. In Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, Kirlia is now a Wandering Pokemon and can also be caught in Max Dens. Finding a Kirlia in the Wild will save trainers time from catching and evolving its pre-evolved form, Ralts.

Kirlia is a Psychic/Fairy-type Pokemon that can evolve into the Psychic/Fairy-type Gardevoir. If Kirlia is a male, then it also has the option of evolving into the Psychic/Fighting-type Gallade. Trainers looking to add a powerful Psychic-type to their team in Sword & Shield should consider catching and evolving Kirlia.

Where to Find Kirlia in the Wild

Kirlia can be found in the Rolling Fields of the Wild Area as a Wandering Pokemon. There are three Wandering Kirlia, and they only appear in Foggy Weather. Prior to getting all 8 of Galar’s gym badges, Kirlia will be a level 26. Once players have beaten Sword & Shield’s main story, Kirlia, along with other Wild Area Pokemon, will be level 60.

Unfortunately, the Grass Badge (the first gym badge) only allows trainers to catch Pokemon up to level 25, and Kirlia is just one level higher. This means trainers will need to get the Water Badge (the second gym badge), which enables them to catch Pokemon up to level 30.

The earliest way to get Kirlia would be to evolve Ralts. Trainers won’t need gym badges to catch Ralts since it appears at a much lower level than Kirlia in the Wild. Ralts can be found in:

  • Dappled Grove
  • North Lake Miloch
  • South Lake Miloch
  • Rolling Fields
  • Watchtower Ruins
  • West Lake Axewell

Unlike Kirlia, Ralts is a Random Encounter and has a 40% chance of appearing. Like Kirlia, it will only spawn when the weather is foggy. Ralts will need to reach level 20 in order to become a Kirlia.

Max Raid Battle: Kirlia

The other way to get Kirlia without evolving Ralts is to find it in Pokemon Dens. Without Sword/Shield’s expansion pass, Kirlia has a chance of appearing in the dens at these locations:

  • Bridge Field
  • Lake of Outrage
  • Motostoke Riverbank
  • Stony Wilderness
  • Watchtower Ruins

With the Isle of Armor DLC, Kirlia can spawn as a Max Raid Pokemon at:

  • Fields of Honor
  • Soothing Wetlands
  • Forest of Focus
  • Challenge Beach
  • Training Lowlands
  • Stepping-Stone Sea
  • Insular Sea

Kirlia appears as a 2-star Max Raid Battle Pokemon, but it has a chance of appearing as a 3-star or a 4-star. Players should know that 2-star Raid Pokemon won’t appear until they have 2-3 gym badges. Similar to the Wandering Kirlia, Max Raid Kirlia can’t be caught until Gym Leaders Milo and Nessa have been defeated.

Since Kirlia’s value is a 2-4 star Max Raid Pokemon, trainers really only need the first three gym badges to catch Kirlia at its lowest level. The Isle of Armor DLC gives more Max Dens for players to step into and find Kirlia.
