It turns out that Pokémon might be aware of memes since the latest trailer for Sword & Shield showcases a fat Pikachu and a long Meowth.

We’ve known that the upcoming Pokémon Sword & Shield will replace Z-moves with all-new Gigantamax forms that essentially turn your cute little critter into an enormous monster capable of burning down a city block if it burps, but we didn’t know which ‘Mons would get the Giga treatment.

Now, thanks to the latest trailer, we know there will be quite a few Pokémon that will have a Gigantamax form, and we also know just what they can do.

We’ll start with Pikachu, who’s Gigantamax form looks awfully familiar. If you were anywhere on the social internet two years ago, you might have come across this image of an enormously obese Pikachu plush that a lot of people found to be somewhat amusing.

It looks like Game Freak also found the whole idea of a thicc Pikachu to be kinda neat since that’s exactly what happens when you Gigantamax your yellow electric mouse. Observant (and also old) Pokémon fans might note that this returns Pikachu to his first-gen measurements circa 1996. Pikachu started out kinda chunky and has since slimmed down to his current svelte form.

However, Gigantamax Pikachu gains back all that thickness and then some. It also gains several more kinks in its tail and a new move: G-Max Volt Crash, which paralyzes the entire opposing team.

You can get this absolute unit of a Pikachu if you have play records from Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!. Ditto if you’ve got Let’s Go, Eevee!, as a Gigantamax version of Eevee is also available with its own unique move.

Giga versions of Charizard and Butterfree are also showcased, but we need to talk about Long Meowth. It seems the team over at Game Freak has decided to further immortalize the legend of Longcat with Gigantamax Meowth, which you can obtain by pre-ordering Sword & Shield before January 15th, 2020. It’ll come with G-Max Gold Rush, which causes all opponents to become confused while also giving the player extra cash after the match.
