Pokémon fans around the world will soon receive more information about the next mainline games in the series, as a new Pokémon Sword & Shield-themed Nintendo Direct will be happening in June.

The Pokémon Company has announced on Twitter that a fifteen-minute long video Direct will be held on June 5, which will focus on Pokémon Sword & Shield. The Pokémon Direct is happening a week before the scheduled Nintendo Direct at E3 2019, which suggests that there will be no Pokémon content at E3.

Pokémon Sword & Shield will be the first mainline entry in the Pokémon series to appear on a home console, yet little information has been revealed about the game. There have only been three new Pokémon revealed and many of the details of the setting have yet to be explained.

There have been rumors circulating concerning the content in Pokémon Sword & Shield, which has included the mysterious “Armored Evolutions” that will grant new forms to existing Pokémon, such as Charizard and Mewtwo. There are also a lot of mysterious locations on the map of the Galar region, such as the dragon-topped castle and the mist-shrouded woods near the home town. There are also questions regarding the soccer-themed events that appeared in the original trailer and how they will fit into the main game.

There is another Pokémon event (via Polygon) due to happen on May 28, which is a press conference that will focus on topics outside of Pokémon Sword & Shield. It’s likely that this event will be focused on a new Pokémon smartphone game, as there has been a push to release new Pokémon mobile games in an attempt to cash in on the success of Pokémon GO. There is also a slim chance of a Pokkén 2 announcement or a reveal of a sequel to the Pokémon Let’s Go! games.

It seems that the Pokémon Company wants to get all of the Pokémon-related news out of the way before E3, so it can bask in the limelight without any competition from other developers and avoid the risk of upstaging Nintendo’s other announcements at the event.

The Pokémon press conference will be held on May 28, 2019, and the Pokémon Sword & Shield Nintendo Direct will be held on June 5, 2019.
