Pokémon Sword Shield How To Find & Evolve Deino Into Hydreigon

For some reason, the Unova generation of Pokémon is considered by many to have the most disappointing and forgettable designs to date. But for us dragon type lovers, we know that’s as far from the truth as you can get. From Haxorus to Druddigon to Reshiram, Generation V birthed some of the most popular designs to date. This includes Hydreigon, the Dark/Dragon dual type who evolves from Deino. Fortunately, this dragon is available to catch in the Galar region of Pokémon: Sword and Shield. However if you have Shield, you will need to get it through a trade since it is exclusive to Sword. For Sword players, simply visit the Lake of Outrage once you get a water upgrade for the Rotom bike. It can also be found in raids near the Dusty Bowl and Giant’s Mirror. Let’s look at why this Pokémon is amazing, and why it’s definitely worth training despite the (sort of) long process involved.

It’s A Glass Cannon Pokemon

Every trainer needs a good old fashioned personal muscle in their party. With high attack and special attack stats of 105 and 125, Hydreigon is definitely a powerhouse in battle. This alone makes him worth leveling. Ghost and psychic pokemon won’t stand a chance against its bulldozer tendencies. This comes in handy in Galar since the region has a large population of these types. However, those unga bunga specialties come with fairly weak defense stats, giving it a tendency to be open for critical hits. A crucial TM to teach it to counter this would be Protect. Be warned that it gets double damage from fairy attacks since it is both a dark and dragon type.

Don’t Rush To Evolve It

Good news here though: you don’t need to wait until Deino becomes a Hydreigon at level 64 to utilize its power. Both Deino and its middle form, Zweilous (which it becomes at level 50), have the ability Hustle that doubles the users attack power in battle. The only downside is that it reduces the chance for a physical move to hit by twenty percent. Since it is so naturally strong, this Pokémon levels slowly and it only becomes slower as it changes form. Therefore, is it highly recommended that you refrain from evolving it right away at its caps, as Deino can learn Outrage at level 60. Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to training this dragon. It’s worth waiting because as a Zweilous it can’t learn it until level 66 and a Hydreigon, level 68. This avoids needless grinding to unlock its true power.

Channel Its True Purpose

As far as moves go, besides Protect, you’ll want to teach this dragon moves that complement its purpose as a hard hitter, which is why Outrage is important. This also includes Draco Meteor (which keep in mind it can only learn from the Move Tutor) and Nasty Plot. Nasty Plot, which increases the user’s special attack, is another move that Deino learns way before its upper forms do. Draco Meteor is a signature dragon move that inflicts 130 damage on its opponent. It lowers the user’s special attack, but this shouldn’t be too much of an issue since this Pokémon’s special attack is already so high.

Bringing this Pokémon onto your journey through the Galar region will be a rewarding experience. Its power will let you barrel through gyms and trainers alike. Just keep it far away from Fairy Pokémon!
